How HKU Business School builds mutually beneficial partnerships with employers

The HKU Business School – MBA Career Development and Training (CDT) team hosted the highly successful and well received inaugural HR Leaders Forum, with the participation of industry experts, scholars, and more than 50 HR practitioners from large corporates.

The forum was co-hosted with Deloitte, and in partnership with Human Resources Online, LinkedIn and Cyberport, serving as a platform for HR directors and talent acquisition professionals to have a thorough discussion and sharing of insights on a wide range of topics. The topics were based on the themes of latest industry developments, as well as upcoming challenges and opportunities such as resetting employer branding strategies, flexible work arrangement and the role of technology in talent acquisition.

It was a pleasure to be able to hold such an event after the past months with the pandemic having impacted industries across the spectrum. During this time, HR professionals have had to deal with a variety of challenges in managing the workforce. This includes challenges faced with remote and hybrid work, downsizing the workforce, maintaining employee morale, upskilling/reskilling the existing staff, and the use of digital tools for new hires.

The CDT team collaborates closely with corporate partners to shape its students to become highly competitive talent in the employment market. The MBA programme has been consistently ranked among the top business schools globally, and the school has a rich and diverse pool of excellent local and international talent. The cohort is made up of seasoned professionals with great leadership potential, who have worked in leading local and international companies.

The CDT team runs a tailored L&D curriculum for the students to further enhance their professional and personal skills, based on the requirements and expectations of its corporate partners. Working together with the HR teams of its partners, the CDT organises workshops, leadership seminars, business treks, and internships to enable the students to explore and understand the corporate partners from the industry sectors they are most interested in.

This helps empower the students to evaluate their options based on the match for their profiles and career aspirations with the suitable opportunities available in the global employment market.
