Mr. Ricky Wong is the Vice Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Technology Venture Company Limited (SEHK: 1137), possesses extensive and successful experience in entrepreneurship, telecom market liberalization, popularizing advanced technology and applications with his outstanding creativity.
In 1992, Mr. Wong set up City Telecom (HK) Limited and was the first to provide alternative IDD service with call-back technology in Hong Kong. In 1999, he set up Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN), being the first telecom operator to provide high-speed 100Mbps and 1000Mbps broadband, telephony and IP-TV services on fibre network.
Mr. Wong received the award as a winner of Directors Of The Year Awards 2005 in the category of Listed Company (SEHK Main Board) Executive Directors, hosted by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD), co-organized by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Government of the HKSAR, the Securities And Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. In 2010, he was voted amongst the top 100 most influential people in telecommunications worldwide by The Global Telecom Business Magazine, as well as awarded Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2010 China For Telecom Category.
Starting from 2015, Mr. Wong led the Group to develop eCommerce business, building the largest 24-hour online shopping mall and digital ecosystem in Hong Kong “HKTVmall”, to provide one-stop service including online shopping, marketing & digital advertising, big data analysis, smart logistics & fulfilment, physical O2O stores as well as customer services. The Group has further expanded its foothold to be a technology enabler, to share unique knowledge, experiences, technical skills and solutions to local and overseas traditional supermarkets or retailers to enter into digital retailing successfully in the shortest time, bringing them tremendous technology innovation and economic values.
Mr. Wong holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and a Master of Business Administration Degree (Executive MBA Programme) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Trustees, United College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
