Class of 2020
Switzerland

I was raised in Switzerland, a country that offers both traditional and vocational education paths. My choice of the vocational education path allowed me to both work and study from the very start. My career began in earnest in 2006, in one of the country’s top-tier banks. Switzerland is not only famous for its exquisite chocolate and watch industries, but also for its traditional financial services. Following their two-year Junior Banking Programme, my company offered me full-time employment in the private banking sector at their head office located in Zurich’s city center. By 2010, I took the opportunity to join the FX & Commodity Sales department of my company’s office in Hong Kong. What was originally meant to be a one-and-a-half-year international assignment in Hong Kong ended up with me becoming a full-time employee of the bank’s Hong Kong office. After seven successful years within the same firm, I decided on a change of company in 2013 and joined the privately-owned Liechtenstein Private Bank in Hong Kong. I have been happily occupying my role there ever since. However, it occurred to me that adding an MBA programme to my CV would be very helpful if I want to progress further in my professional career.

In late 2017, I decided to try joining an information session of the HKU MBA programme in Cyberport, after reading about the event on LinkedIn. After talking to various alumni, current students and programme officials, I was convinced to submit my application right afterwards. My main motivation for joining the programme was to widen my horizons, deepen my existing knowledge and broaden my understanding of different industries. Given that my professional role is very much focused on the financial industry, the programme’s various modules provided me with great insights into many other aspects of the business world. The fascinating mix of cultures and ethnic backgrounds among students as well as the long and distinguished history of the University of Hong Kong lead me to feel assured that I have picked the right MBA programme for my future professional development.
